Inaugural New York City Culinary Diplomacy Event
873 Broadway, Studio 1, New York, NY 10003 | Friday, 3/13/15 @ 6:30pm
In 2014, the U.S.-Japan Council launched its Culinary Diplomacy initiative inspired by the belief that sharing food from different cultures promotes cross-cultural dialogue and understanding and creates platforms for lasting personal relationships. To date three culinary diplomacy programs have taken place—the Ukai Tofuya Reception in Tokyo in May 2014, the exchange, educational, and Festival programs in Hawaii as part of the October 2014 Annual Conference, and regional food events in Houston and Chicago.

New York City is the culinary center of the U.S. with many fantastic Japanese restaurants. With the kind support and donations from several Japanese restaurants and organizations, the U.S.-Japan Council is pleased to announce the inaugural USJC New York City Culinary Diplomacy Event. Please join us on March 13, 2015 to celebrate Japanese cuisine and the spirit of the U.S.-Japan relationship. There will be ramen, soba, sushi, curry, and more! Plus, plenty of drinks!
As our event will occur on March 13, 2015, two days after the four-year anniversary of the March 11 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, the event will commemorate those who lost their lives during those tragic events by supporting the USJC, which through its TOMODACHI Initiative, plays a crucial role in supporting Japan’s recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake.
